Massive Fire Guts New Ashok Nagar Police Compound's Yard, 84 Vehicles Destroyed
New Delhi, May 19 (TNA) A massive fire broke out on Tuesday afternoon in the vehicle yard located inside the residential complex of New Ashok Nagar police station, destroying around 84 vehicles, most of them seized property vehicles.
The blaze spread rapidly through the storehouse area, sending thick smoke high into the sky and causing alarm, especially as a petrol pump is located just a short distance from the police station.
Police personnel at the spot used fire extinguishers and water from the overhead tank in an attempt to douse the flames before the fire brigade arrived.
Five fire tenders were rushed to the scene after the incident was reported. After nearly an hour of efforts, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control.
Officials said the exact cause of the fire is still not known. No casualties were immediately reported, but the fire caused extensive damage to the stored vehicles. Police and fire officials are investigating the incident.
