Rishikesh, June 13 (TNA) A major fire engulfed several buses at the bus stand in Rishikesh in the hill state of Uttarakhand on Tuesday, causing panic among the people present. Prompt action by the police and fire department however averted any casualties, with no loss of lives reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The bus stand in Rishikesh had been witnessing a significant influx of buses, as they were being readied to transport pilgrims for the annual Char Dham Yatra. Additionally, nearby shops were carrying out vehicle repair work, contributing to the bustling atmosphere in the area.

The fire originated when one of the buses undergoing repairs, an official said. The flames quickly spread, intensifying and enveloping the neighboring buses parked nearby. As the fire raged, nearby individuals and onlookers were gripped by fear and began fleeing the area.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the quick-thinking bus drivers swiftly removed their vehicles from the vicinity, minimizing the risk of the fire spreading further. The local fire department was promptly notified, and they immediately dispatched a team to the scene.

The fire department, along with the local police, arrived at the bus stand and immediately sprang into action. Despite the formidable challenge posed by the rapidly spreading flames, the combined efforts of the firefighting team and the police eventually gained control over the fire. Their tireless endeavors ensured that the fire was contained, averting a potential disaster.
