Karnataka High Court To Pronounce Judgement In Hijab Case Today
Bengaluru, March 15 (TNA) A bench headed by Karnataka High Court Chief Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi will pronounce its verdict on the hijab issue on Tuesday. As a measure of caution, schools and colleges will remain closed in many districts of Karnataka and section 144 has been imposed.
A three-judge bench comprising Justice Krishna S Dixit and Justice Khaji Jayabunnesa Mohiuddin reserved the case for the first verdict after hearing arguments and counter-arguments. Six female students of Udupi Pre-University College for Girls had started protesting for entering the class wearing hijab.
The protest spread to other districts and became a major controversy. Tensions even arose, as some Hindu students started coming in saffron shawls.
