India’s First Vegetarian Professional Bodybuilder Varinder Singh Ghuman Passes Away

Amritsar, October 10 (TNA) Renowned Indian bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman left his friends and followers in shock as he died at the age of 42 due to a sudden heart attack on Thursday, while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Amritsar, Punjab.

Ghuman was admitted for a routine surgical procedure related to a bicep injury when he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at the hospital in the evening. He was a celebrated figure in Indian bodybuilding, widely recognized as the country’s first prominent vegetarian professional bodybuilder.

He won the prestigious Mr. India title in 2009 and was a runner-up in the Mr. Asia contest. Ghuman became a fitness icon, inspiring many young Indians with his commitment to a strict vegetarian diet and powerful fitness regime. Hollywood superstar Arnold Schwarzenegger selected him for promotional campaigns in Asia, further elevating Ghuman’s fame.

Aside from his sports achievements, Varinder Singh Ghuman also found success in cinema. He appeared in the Bollywood film ‘Tiger 3’ alongside Salman Khan, and acted in other movies including ‘Roar: Tigers of the Sundarbans’ (2014), ‘Marjaavaan’ (2019), and the Punjabi film ‘Kabaddi Once More’ (2012). His performances were well received by audiences and added to his popularity both as an athlete and entertainer.

Political leaders and celebrities expressed sorrow at Ghuman’s sudden demise. Punjab’s former Deputy Chief Minister and current Member of Parliament, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, shared a heartfelt tribute, highlighting Ghuman’s role in bringing glory to Punjab and the nation. Tributes also poured in from sports personalities, with many acknowledging his discipline and advocacy for a healthy, vegetarian lifestyle.
