Hill Slides In Himachal's Lahaul-Spiti Damming River Chandrabagha, Downstream Villages Evacuated

Shimla, August 13 (TNA) With a dramatic surge in the natural havocs in the state, fresh hill slides in Himachal's Lahaul-Spiti district, damming the river Chandrabagha which has posed a grave threat to the downstream villages in this tribal region, said a government official on Friday.

"A massive hill slide occurred near Nalda village in tribal Lahaul-Spiti district on Friday, damming river Chandrabagha. The water from the damned river is now flowing over the earth debris, posing threats to the villages downstream," said SP Lahaul-Spiti, Manav Verma.

The government has evacuated all the the people of downstream villages to evade any disaster from happening, and alert has been issued to the villagers to avoid staying near the river bank, Sudesh Mokhta, Director, Himachal Pradesh Disaster Management Authority informed.

There is no loss of human life or property till now due to this natural hazard, it was added. This is a second big disaster striking the state in a span of twenty four hours, throwing huge challenges to the government and people in Himachal Pradesh.
