From Today, WhatsApp Is Not Available On Old Android Phones And iPhones!

2 min read

Lucknow, June 1 (TNA) In this era of rapidly growing technology, WhatsApp has become inseparable for every smartphone user. But you might be in for interruption, and that too forever, if you are using an old smartphone, as your WhatsApp may stop working from Sunday (June 1, 2025). Both iPhone and Android users will have to face this.

WhatsApp has decided to stop its service on many old smartphones. From June 1, 2025, WhatsApp will stop working on some old iPhone and Android devices. Earlier the company was going to implement it in May itself, but later the deadline was extended till June 1, giving some time relaxation to the customers. Why is WhatsApp shutting down?

WhatsApp has decided to stop support on old Android devices that have Android KitKat (version 4.4) or older versions. This step has been taken by WhatsApp to improve security and new features because old devices are not able to support these updates. This change is part of routine updates by WhatsApp's parent company Meta. Hardware and software limitations of older devices affect WhatsApp's functionality.

If updating is not possible, consider getting a new phone. Don't forget to back up your chats. Use Google Drive on Android and iCloud on iPhone to backup chats.

Which devices will be affected?

This move by WhatsApp will only affect older devices, not the entire platform. Android users who have 5.0 (Lollipop) or older versions will be affected. iPhone users who are using versions older than iOS 15.1 will no longer be able to use WhatsApp.
