Doordarshan Declines To Stream Biopic On Sir Syed Ahmad Khan On Prasar Bharati OTT
New Delhi, February 20 (TNA) The first-ever biopic on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan (1817-1898), the founder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been released internationally on an OTT platform. However, India's national broadcaster, Doordarshan, has declined to stream the film on Prasar Bharati’s OTT platform.
Titled "Sir Syed Ahmad Khan: The Messiah," the biopic was recently unveiled in a grand ceremony at AMU by the university's Vice-Chancellor, Naima Khatoon.
According to a report, Mumbai-based production house Dark Horse Productions received a letter from Prasar Bharati’s program executive stating, "I have been directed to inform you that your proposal to stream the program based on Sir Syed Ahmad Khan on Prasar Bharati’s upcoming OTT platform under the Revenue Sharing Mode (RSM) is ineligible for broadcast/streaming."
Actor Expresses Discontent
Shoaib Chaudhary, the producer and lead actor of the biopic, has expressed his disappointment over the decision. "The TV series I made for DD was one of the longest-running in Doordarshan’s history. Shockingly, my biopic on a key reformer and educationist like Sir Syed has been deemed ineligible for streaming on the national public broadcaster’s OTT platform," he said.
