Congress Plans To Contest Nine Lok Sabha Seats In Bihar, Of These It Won One In 2019

Patna, September 9 (TNA) Bihar Congress President Akhilesh Prasad Singh has announced that the party plans to contest a similar number of seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as it did in the 2019 elections. In 2019, out of Bihar's 40 seats, Congress contested in 9, winning one seat.

Singh credited Rahul Gandhi's "Bharat Jodo yatra" for strengthening the party, highlighting recent wins in Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh. However, he did not specify the exact number of seats they intend to contest, awaiting decisions from the INDIA bloc committee.

Singh expressed optimism about securing a fair seat-sharing deal with allies in the INDIA bloc, emphasizing their significant Lok Sabha presence in Bihar, with the sole opposition seat being Kishanganj. He also expressed confidence in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar's willingness to grant Congress two additional cabinet berths in the state.

In response, BJP leaders in Bihar mocked Singh's statement, predicting potential friction within the Opposition bloc over seat-sharing as the election approaches.
