CISF Thwarts Two Major Foreign Currency Smuggling Attempts at Delhi Airport
New Delhi, November 4 (TNA) In two separate incidents on Sunday, alert CISF personnel at Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi, intercepted two international passengers attempting to smuggle out substantial amounts of undeclared foreign currency.
Around 1400 hrs, a passenger bound for Baghdad was intercepted based on profiling and behavioral observation. On screening, USD 21,400 (approximately ₹18.99 lakh) was recovered from his hand baggage.
In another incident at around 2050 hrs, a passenger scheduled to fly to Bangkok was apprehended on similar profiling grounds. A detailed baggage check led to the recovery of 32,800 Canadian Dollars and 9,750 Euros (approximately ₹30.76 lakh) concealed in his luggage.
Both passengers, along with the recovered currency and belongings, were handed over to customs officials for further necessary action.
