26-Year-Old Man Killed in Holi Dispute in Delhi's Uttam Nagar After Water Balloon Splash
New Delhi, March 7 (TNA) A 26-year-old man, Tarun Kumar, was allegedly beaten to death by a mob in southwest Delhi’s Uttam Nagar during Holi celebrations on Thursday, following a dispute over a water balloon that accidentally splashed a woman.
The incident unfolded in a JJ colony when an 11-year-old girl playing on the roof threw a Holi balloon toward relatives below; it burst on the street, hitting a passing woman and sparking a confrontation between two families.
Eyewitnesses and family accounts describe the argument escalating rapidly, with 15-20 people attacking Tarun with sticks, bricks, pipes, and stones—targeting his back, chest, and head—leading to his death en route to the hospital.
Delhi Police have arrested four individuals, including a minor, and detained others for questioning; preliminary probes point to a neighbourhood clash rather than premeditation, though communal angles are under scrutiny amid protests.
Tarun’s family has demanded a CBI inquiry, alleging police inaction and lathi-charge during their road blockade protest, where vehicles were torched. Authorities have deployed heavy forces to maintain order, urging calm as investigations continue.
