Trump To Withdraw U.S. From UN Human Rights Council, Extend UNRWA Funding Freeze
Washington February 4 (TNA) U.S. President Donald Trump is set to formally withdraw the United States from the United Nations Human Rights Council and extend the existing funding freeze on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA), according to a White House official cited by U.S. media.
Reports from Politico and NPR indicate that Trump will sign an executive order on Tuesday, coinciding with his meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a strong critic of the UN and UNRWA.
This move follows Trump's earlier decisions to pull the U.S. out of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris climate agreement since beginning his second term on January 20. Both actions were initially taken during his first term but later reversed by the Biden administration. His latest decisions reflect his continued scepticism of international organizations.
