Thailand-Cambodia Conflict Escalates: UNSC Emergency Meet Called at Cambodia’s Request with Pakistan’s Help
New Delhi, July 26 (TNA) Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia have flared into a full-blown military conflict, prompting global concern. Amid escalating hostilities over the past two days, Cambodia has requested an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), now scheduled for 12:30 AM tonight (IST). The request was facilitated through Pakistan, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the UNSC.
Cambodia has accused Thailand of launching repeated attacks, including the use of cluster bombs and airstrikes by F-16 fighter jets. In response, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet took to Facebook, urging citizens to remain calm while reiterating his country's commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.
He also formally appealed to Pakistan for support in raising the issue at the UNSC. Under the UN’s rotational system, Pakistan is heading the Security Council this month, enabling it to act swiftly on Cambodia’s plea. The situation marks a sharp deterioration in Southeast Asian stability, with both nations engaged in active combat. The international community now looks to the UNSC for de-escalation.
