Rajinikanth Starrer 'Jailer' Makes Staggering $4.7M Global Debut, Sets Kollywood Record

Tamil film "Jailer" makes a powerful international debut, amassing over USD 4.70 million as of Thursday. This includes USD 1.10 million from Wednesday previews in North America and USD 3.60 million on Thursday. Coupled with an opening day collection of Rs. 48 crores in India, the movie's global box office earnings reach around Rs. 87 crores.

The movie excelled in all markets, from Southeast Asia to the Middle East and North America. Particularly noteworthy was its performance in North America, grossing USD 1.85 million. Impressively, Thursday's numbers were only 30% lower than Wednesday's. Expectations are high for a weekend surge, with projections for the 4-day weekend, including previews, to surpass USD 4.50 million.

In the Middle East, "Jailer" achieved a remarkable start with USD 1.20 million on its first day. This exceeded the opening earnings of "PS1" and "Vikram," both of which began with around USD 1 million. Notably, "Jailer" premiered on a Thursday, a working day in the UAE, whereas the others opened on Fridays.

Southeast Asian Tamil hubs also contributed significantly, with around RM 2.40 million in Malaysia and SGD 310K in Singapore. The UK and Australia saw the third and fifth best Kollywood starts ever, collecting GBP 225K and AUD 270K, respectively.

Projections indicate the extended 4-day weekend overseas will likely reach USD 13 million, with a high potential to exceed USD 14 million. This would establish a new record for the highest four-day total in Kollywood history.

"Jailer" is a Tamil black-comedy action film directed by Nelson and produced by Sun Pictures. Starring Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Jackie Shroff, and others, the film has gained global attention for its strong debut performance.
