Morocco Defends The Palestinian Cause Before The International Court Of Justice

Rabat, February 24 (TNA) The Kingdom of Morocco, represented by its ambassador to The Hague, is participating from February 19 to 29, 2024, in the hearings of the International Court of Justice concerning Israeli policies in occupied Palestinian territory, following UN General Assembly resolution 247/77 adopted in December 2021, where Morocco played an active role in its adoption.

In its arguments, Morocco emphasizes its respect for international law and its support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, firmly rejecting Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, which constitute a major obstacle to peace. Since 1967, Morocco has maintained a firm and consistent position at the United Nations, particularly at the General Assembly and the Security Council, regarding the legal status of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

Morocco calls for a just and lasting solution, with East Jerusalem as the capital of the Palestinian state, reaffirming its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East. As the President of the Al-Quds Committee, King Mohammed VI is committed to protecting Jerusalem as a place of interfaith encounter, emphasizing the importance of preserving its legal and spiritual status. The signing of the "Jerusalem Appeal" in March 2019 by Mohammed VI and Pope Francis reinforces Morocco's commitment to preserving Jerusalem as a place of interfaith encounter and freedom of access to places of worship.

Morocco hopes that the advisory opinion of the Court will contribute to a permanent solution for the Palestinian people, while strongly condemning unilateral measures and the intensification of colonization in the occupied territories. In the face of the humanitarian crisis, Morocco is sending urgent aid to Gaza and Jerusalem, expressing solidarity with the Palestinians through concrete actions, such as granting additional scholarships to students in Gaza.
