International Performer Mary Millben Welcomes India–EU Free Trade Agreement, Praises Modi’s Diplomacy
New Delhi, January 28 (TNA) International singer and actress Mary Millben on Monday publicly welcomed the recently announced India–EU Free Trade Agreement, commending what she described as the “strategic diplomacy” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President António Costa.
In a statement, Millben said the agreement marks a “significant moment in geopolitics,” adding that it reflects ongoing shifts in global trade as New Delhi diversifies relationships amid tensions with the United States over tariff policy.
Millben, who has performed for five consecutive U.S. presidents and previously served as a White House appointee during the George W. Bush administration, said her career had brought her into contact with global leaders, including China’s President Xi Jinping and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin.
She praised Modi for what she characterised as “measured” diplomacy and resilience during recent U.S.–India economic disagreements. According to Millben, India’s posture in recent negotiations has strengthened ties with China, Russia, and the European Union.
Addressing U.S.–India relations more broadly, Millben called for a recalibration of Washington’s approach, asserting that “India is a friend” and urging President Donald Trump to “pivot” toward a more conciliatory tone. She expressed disapproval of what she termed “hostile rhetoric” from the current administration and argued that cooperation between the world’s “oldest and largest democracies” remains vital.
