Demonstrators Enter Parliament Building In Libya, Protests Erupt As Living Conditions Deteriorate

Tripoli, July 2 (TNA) Protesters, up in arms against he deteriorating living conditions and the political impasse took over the seat of the Libyan Parliament in Tobruk, the media has reported.

Several television channels claimed that demonstrators had entered the building and indulged in looting. Images broadcast by the media showed thick columns of black smoke emerging from the perimeter of the building after angry young protesters burned tires.

Other media said that part of the building was also torched. The Parliament thankfully was empty when the demonstrators entered it, Friday being a holiday in Libya. A bulldozer led by a protester broke down part of the portal of the building enclosure, facilitating the eruption of protesters inside, according to the images. Members' cars were set on fire.

Other demonstrators, some of whom waved green flags of Muammar Gaddafi's former regime, threw into the air documents that they recovered from the offices. This demonstration took place at a time when the country has been plagued for several days by power cuts, breakdowns aggravated by the blocking of several oil installations against a background of political quarrels between rival camps.

Libya has been plunged into chaos since the fall of the Gaddafi regime in 2011. Other demonstrations against the living conditions and carelessness of the political class took place on Friday in Tripoli and other Libyan cities but no overflow was reported
