This year, the Kingdom of Morocco is set to demonstrate its expertise in organizing major football tournaments. Chosen by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Morocco has already laid the foundations for a spectacular continental competition. The group stage draw will take place on Monday, January 27 in Rabat, marking the start of the countdown to this major sporting event.
Morocco is fully prepared for the 2025 AFCON, with the group stage draw scheduled for Monday, January 27 at 7:00 p.m. in Rabat. The tournament will begin on December 21, 2025, concluding with the final on January 18, 2026.
The highest authority of football in Africa has made a wise decision by entrusting the organization of this tournament to Morocco. "The choice of Morocco as the host country of the AFCON comes as no surprise, given its proven track record in hosting international football competitions," CAF said in an official statement.
CAF highlighted Morocco's success in hosting several major events, including the African Nations Championship for local players (CHAN-2018), the 2022 Women's AFCON, and the 2023 FIFA Club World Cup.
With world-class facilities, passionate fans, and a well-established track record in hosting major sporting events, Morocco is ready to stage an AFCON that will set new standards for the competition. This sentiment was confirmed in CAF's statement following the announcement of Morocco as the host country of the 2025 AFCON on 27 September 2023, which was received with great enthusiasm.
In preparation for the tournament, CAF experts have already conducted assessments of the available sports infrastructure in Morocco, in line with international standards. Notable venues include the Mohammed V Sports Complex in Casablanca, the Prince Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat, as well as major stadiums in Tangier, Agadir and Marrakech, not to mention the Fez Sports Complex.
In addition, hospitality venues have been upgraded to accommodate the influx of hundreds of thousands of visitors expected to flock to Morocco during the tournament. As the 2025 AFCON kicks off, Morocco is ready and eagerly awaiting the competing teams and their supporters.
