1 min read

Madrid, April 23 (TNA) The leader of the Polisario Front that leads the struggle for the self-declared Western Sahara republic has been brought to Spain for medical treatment, according to the Spanish foreign ministry.

Reports in a section of media have pointed out that Brahim Ghali (73), who heads the Algeria-backed pro-independence group representing the local Sahrawi population that has fought Moroccan forces for control of the territory in western Africa, however said there were no more details available on this matter and on what health condition of his has necessitated this.

Spain's National Court had investigated Ghali in 2008 and then again in 2016 for possible genocide and other crimes as a result of allegations brought against the veteran militant by a dissident Sahrawi group. The probes were however closed and as of now there were no pending investigations against him in Spain.
