Azerbaijan, Armenia Sign US-Brokered Peace Deal, Pledging Economic and Diplomatic Renewal

New Delhi, August 9 (TNA) In a historic breakthrough, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a U.S.-brokered peace agreement at the White House on Friday, ending decades of hostility. U.S. President Donald Trump hailed the deal as a “35-year conflict turned into friendship,” with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in attendance.

The pact commits both nations to halt fighting, open diplomatic ties, and respect each other’s territorial integrity. It also grants the U.S. exclusive development rights to a strategic South Caucasus transit corridor, aimed at boosting energy and resource exports. Separate agreements will expand cooperation on energy, trade, and emerging technologies, including AI.

The peace marks a significant geopolitical shift, likely unsettling Moscow, which has long considered the region within its sphere of influence.
