Algeria Horse Trading For PSC Seat Falls Under Deceit Policy

The Peace and Security Council of the African Union has contributed its efforts to establish peace and security against military coups, famine, drought, and insurgency activities of international terrorists in different states of Africa from time to time.

The Peace and Security Council terms run from 1 April to 31 March; ten members are elected for two years, and five members are elected for three years. Elected members represent Africa’s regional distribution. All fifteen members have equal power in the council. The African Union Executive Council elects the members of the Peace and Security Council.

Algeria is doing its best to secure a seat in the Peace and Security Council of the African Union. Efforts of getting it befits an agenda for Algeria, which has become a threat to the peace and security in the region.

All the member states of the African Union are aware of Algerian open secret and efforts in destabilising neighbourhood countries’ political, economic and social development activities.

The inter-African cooperation under globalization has seen the opposite to Algerian politics of destabilization that left no space for the win-win partnership among African neighborhood states. Ultimately, Algerian frustration has been seen with the ‘Suitcase’ politics in influencing and buying the votes of the AU member states in the corridors of the Addis Ababa hotels in Ethiopia.

To counter its malaise image as a destabilizer, the Algerian President has maneuvered Suitcase diplomacy in procuring a seat on the Peace and Security Council of the African Union. On top of that, the diplomatic brokers has either tried their best in convincing the member states with the Suitcase or frightened them in creating a risk of disillusionment.

Algerian efforts in becoming a member of this prestigious body of the Peace and Security Council of the AU, Algeria will try to improve its image in the international environment on the one hand and continue its devastating activities in the region on the other hand.

Algeria would like to grab a seat in the Peace and Security Council and use it as an instrument in procuring its hegemonic aims. Algeria does not believe in democratic process and practice Horse Trading will ultimately delegitimize the democratic electoral process of choosing members for the Peace and Security Council. However, Algerian attitude will ultimately hamper the image of the AU and drag down its prestige in global affairs.
