Zika Virus Patient In Kanpur Stable, Team Of Epidemiologists Dispatched By Union Government In City

Kanpur, October 27 (TNA) A team of epidemiologists dispatched by the Government of India has reached Kanpur after the first case of Zika virus was discovered in the city’s Pokharpur village of Jajmau. They will study the past history of the disease. A team of medical experts from Lucknow also visited Kanpur and interacted with all concerned.

So far only one case of Zika virus has been reported in Kanpur and the patient is being treated at Air Force Station hospital and his condition is stable and improving, divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar said.

The health department has collected the samples of 22 other persons who are family members or close contacts 2 days back. But all the samples were found negative for the virus. 9 more samples have been taken whose report will be received by Wednesday afternoon, the official further informed

The Commissioner, along with AD Health, CMO, Additional Municipal Commissioner and others visited the place and reviewed the steps taken for the prevention and treatment of Zika infection. The commissioner interacted with the family members of the infected person and took details of the case, travel history, close contacts etc.
