LUCKNOW || Facing all round flak over the heart wrenching incident in Hathras where a 19-year-old Dalit girl was first gang raped and brutally assaulted and then had to face the pathetic attitude of the police, struggle for life at a hospital not fit for her injuries and then finally lose the battle of life in the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi on Tuesday, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath spoke to her family late on Wednesday.

Officials said that the saffron robed chief minister first expressed his condolences at the tragedy that has shaken everyone and then announced that the family will be given a financial assistance of Rs 25 lakh, government job for a family member and a house will also be allotted for them.

The monk-turned-politician during the video call, also assured the family that the guilty will be handed out the stringiest of punishment. He also directed the district authorities in Hathras to extend all possible help and cooperation to the bereaved family.

After outrage on the incident where the authorities conducted the cremation of the victim in the night, barricading the media and the family members not being allowed, prime minister Narendra Modi had called up Adityanath and had taken a briefing on the incident, the state government constituted a special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter and to submit its report within a week.
