Lucknow, November 13 (TNA) In a historic move to promote women’s empowerment and workplace equality, the Yogi Adityanath government has approved a groundbreaking order allowing women to work night shifts between 7 pm and 6 am but only with their consent. The directive mandates employers to ensure the complete safety and welfare of women employees, including fair wages and proper working conditions.

According to the official Gazette notification, women working night shifts will be entitled to double wages, CCTV surveillance, safe transport, and dedicated security guards. They will also be permitted to work for up to six days a week, ensuring greater flexibility and equal opportunities.

In a major relief, the overtime limit has been increased from 75 hours to 144 hours per quarter, with payment at double wage rates. Notably, this order extends to 29 categories of hazardous industries, opening new avenues for women to enter sectors previously restricted due to safety concerns.

The Yogi government’s initiative reflects a strong commitment to women’s safety, equality, and economic independence, marking a significant step forward in Uttar Pradesh’s labour reforms and women empowerment agenda.
