Webinar Held On New Education Policy At Aligarh Muslim University

ALIGARH || "A university is a heterogeneous institution with multidisciplinary aspects that reinforces multidisciplinary researches. There is a need for conducting researches with the multidisciplinary collaboration of western countries", said Professor Tariq Mansoor while addressing a national webinar on "Pedagogical Reforms in the context of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020: Future Road Map".

The webinar was recently organized by the Department of Education, Aligarh Muslim University.

Prof Tariq Mansoor also sheds light on the causes of low enrolment in the socially and economically disadvantaged sections of the society emphasizing that implementation of various schemes of National Education Policy seeks the cooperation of all stakeholders.

In his keynote address, Prof K Ramachandran (Senior Advisor, Unit of International Cooperation, NIEPA, New Delhi) said that the NEP emphasizes the holistic development of every student, adding that flexibility must be the hallmark and learners should have the freedom of choosing learning programmes according to their talents and interest.

Revamping of curriculum, pedagogy and student assessment system are essential to achieve this and we have to prepare the students to face the fourth industrial revolution, he said.

Prof CB Sharma (Former Chairperson, NIOS, New Delhi) made a comparison between the former policies and the National Education Policy. He said that the NEP addresses the issue of the mother tongue as a medium of instruction in a better way.

Prof Pranati Panda (Head, School Standards and Evaluation, NIEPA, New Delhi) discussed how we can achieve pedagogical reforms in the field of education.

Prof Aejaz Masih (Dean, IASE, Faculty of Education, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi) said that teaching is a complex activity and for a teacher, it is necessary to have a vast knowledge base and competence to become a role model for his students. Content-specific pedagogical skills are to be administered in the institutions, said Prof Aejaz, adding that a regulatory body should be worked out for managing teacher education institutions.

Prof Pankaj Arora (CIE, University of Delhi) discussed the foundation course of school education and said that the NEP is based on the Gandhian policy of basic education.

Prof CPS Chauhan (Chairman, IUCTE, BHU and Former Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, AMU) discussed the types of postgraduate courses and stressed on multiple entry procedure, highlighted in the NEP-2020. Expressing concern on the decline in gross enrolment ratio, Prof Chauhan said that multidisciplinary institutions should pay special attention to developing research and teaching standard.

Earlier, Prof Nasrin (Chairperson, Department of Education) welcomed the guest speakers while Dr Razia B conducted the programme. Prof Nisar Ahmad Khan (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences) proposed a vote of thanks.

More than 300 participants including faculty members, research scholars, and students from all over the country attended the webinar through Cisco Webex platform.
