Varanasi Cop Caught Taking Bribe Of Rs One Lakh, To Be Produced In Court Today

Varanasi, May 12 (TNA) A sub-inspector of Jansa police station has been arrested for taking bribe of Rs one lakh rupees from a persons in lieu of removing his name from a case. The arrest was made by an anti-corruption team which soon after arrest took him to the Rohaniya police station where a case was filed against him and he is likely to be produced before the court sometime today.

The sub-inspector Abhishek Verma and another middleman Shivam Singh operating in Varanasi's Jansa police - both have been arrested. Verma is of 2019 batch and a native of Salori Shukla Market of Colonelganj police station area of Prayagraj. Middleman Shivam Singh is a resident of Katwarupur village of Jansa police station area. Saif, a resident of Beruka village, had filed a case on May 5 at the Jansa police station against four nnamed and other unknowns on charges including assault and intimidation by entering the house.

The investigation of this case was given to sub-inspector Abhishek Verma, who was posted as second officer in the town outpost of Jansa police station. Amjad Hussain, the named accused in the case, complained to the Varanasi unit of the Anti-Corruption team that Inspector Abhishek is pressurizing him that if he gives one lakh rupees, along with reducing the section of the case, he will also remove his name.

On the basis of the complaint, the team asked Amjad to call him in front of the Langotia Hanuman temple in Dindaspur to hand over the bundle of notes containing chemical markers to Inspector Abhishek. Inspector Abhishek reached with middleman Shivam at 12:50 pm in front of Hanuman temple to collect money from Amjad.

As he did so, the team of Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, Head Constables Shailendra Rai and Sunil Yadav and Constables Sumit Bharti, Ajay Yadav and Vinod, lead by Inspector Neeraj Singh, in-charge of the anti-corruption unit, caught both of them red-handed.
