Lucknow, March 22 (TNA) Fresh cases of COVID continued to surge on Monday both across Uttar Pradesh and the state capital Lucknow with a high of 542 cases being reported in the last 24-hours.
Lucknow stood at the top of the scary list of fresh cases with 147 new cases while Kanpur city reported 23 and Prayagraj (32). Ghaziabad comparatively recorded a low of nine and neighbouring Noida reported 29 fresh cases.
Jhansi has also reported a high of 35 fresh cases, Firozabad (14), Unnao (13), Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar 12 each, Mathura (11), and Agra (14). One person has died across the state in the past one day due to COVID-19, taking the over all statewide toll to 8760.
There are concerns in the health community that the fresh cases may be a signal of an impending second wave. The worry for most experts is the fact that people are not adhering to COVID protocols like social distancing and use of masks and that the festival of Holi might spark off a new spike in cases.
