UP Swelters Under Early Summer Heat, Heatwave Warning Issued in 40 Districts
Lucknow, April 27 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh is experiencing intense June-like heat in the last week of April, with scorching winds and blazing sunshine making it difficult for people to step out during the day. Streets have worn a deserted look in the afternoon as the state battles an early spell of severe गर्मी.
On Sunday, Banda remained the hottest district in the state for the second day in a row, recording 46.6 degrees Celsius. Prayagraj touched 45.7 degrees, Amethi 44.7 degrees and Hamirpur 44.2 degrees Celsius. The weather department has issued a heatwave warning for 40 districts on Monday, indicating that conditions will remain harsh for now.
However, some relief may be on the way. According to the weather office, a new western disturbance is expected to become active, bringing a change in weather from late Monday night or Tuesday.
Senior scientist Atul Kumar Singh of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Lucknow said light rain or drizzle could begin in western UP and the Terai region from April 28 and gradually spread across much of the state, possibly pulling temperatures down by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.
The heatwave alert covers Banda, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Prayagraj, Fatehpur, Pratapgarh, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Varanasi, Bhadohi, Jaunpur, Ghazipur, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur Nagar, Unnao, Lucknow, Barabanki, Raebareli, Amethi, Sultanpur, Ayodhya, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Kasganj, Etah, Agra, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Auraiya, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi and Lalitpur, along with nearby areas.
