UP Reports A Whopping 33,214 Fresh Covid Cases In One Day, 187 Deaths

Lucknow, April 21 (TNA) Uttar Pradesh recorded a huge surge in COVID cases with 33,214 new cases being reported from across the state and the deaths due to the deadly virus touching 187. Official data released by the state government showed that the present active case load in the state stood at a whopping 2.42 lakh.

The state capital Lucknow reclaimed its position as the worst hit city by Coronavirus as 5902 new cases were reported and 21 people died of it. Varanasi continued to be precariously poised with 2564 new cases and 12 deaths and Kanpur city logged 1811 cases and 15 deaths.

Ghaziabad shockingly saw in a huge spike in fatalities with 8 deaths in the last 24-hours and 465 new cases.

Noida reported 536 fresh cases and four deaths in the past 24-hours. Prayagraj reported 1828 new cases and six deaths. Situation remains serious in many other districts of the state with Gorakhpur reporting 987 cases and 10 deaths, Meerut 1273, Bareilly (983), Moradabad (441), Jaunpur (760). Amethi, the Lok Sabha seat of union minister Smriti Irani logged 256 cases and three deaths.

What is distressing is the fact that the number of cases has doubled in almost 80% of UP districts and there is a huge paucity of hospital beds, medicine, life-saving injections and medical oxygen.
