UP Regains Fifth Rank In Exports

Lucknow, January 1 (TNA) Economic activity worldwide which had come to a grinding halt due to the lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus as a result of which the export business of the country and Uttar Pradesh also declined during the first eight months of the current financial year between April-November 2020.

UP's export sector also tanked during that time. But after coming out of lockdown, UP's export business is back on track again due to the concrete decisions taken by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote exports, an official informed TNA. Not only this, Uttar Pradesh has reached the fifth rank again after taking a giant leap in the field of exports.

According to a comparative study of the government, from April to November in the year 2019, products worth Rs 14,84,386.50 crore were exported from the country of which Rs 80058.44 crore worth products were exported from UP. During the Corona crisis, when products worth Rs 12,99,354.87 crore were exported from the country from April to November in 2020, products worth Rs 72508.14 crore were sent abroad from UP in the same period.

According to these figures of the government of the state, exports of the country and the state decreased during the Corona crisis. So on the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the focus was on increasing the export business in the state. Due to this, UP now ranks fifth in the country in terms of exports, leaving behind states like Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, West Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, Kerala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to information received from the authorities, when the country's export business fell sharply during the Corona crisis, only then the export business of UP had decreased by about 30 percent. Taking cognisance of this, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took many significant decisions to promote the export business of the province.

Products made in the state are exported from UP to many countries including USA, UAE, Vietnam, UK, Nepal, Germany, China, France, Spain and Malaysia. According to export-oriented businessmen, the maximum exports from UP are handicrafts processed meat, leather products and carpets.

Due to which action was taken to send the dumped product of exporters abroad. Under the Ease of Doing Business, an effort was made to give big facilities to exporters. Preparations were also started to develop districts as export hubs.

This impacted and accelerated the export business that stalled during the Corona virus in the state. On the other hand, exports of other textiles, floor covering, meats, brass decorative products, toys, sports parts and wood products saw a boom.

Not only this, the 30 percent decline in the export business of UP has been brought down  to 9.43 percent. Due to this, UP succeeded in achieving the fifth rank in the field of exports. The exporters of the state are of the opinion that, behind getting this rank, the efforts of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the propelling force.

As it is, UP ranks number one in exports of other textiles, floor coverings, meats brass decorative products, toys, sports parts and wood products. And UP accounts for 4.55 percent of the country's exports.

According to those involved in the export business, the pharmaceutical sector performed well during the Corona crisis. During April-November 2020, exports of this sector have increased by 15 percent.

Apart from this, exports of rice and iron ore and the products of the state's ODOP scheme have also increased. The traders associated with the export business are hopeful that due to the policies of the state government, the exports will start to be equal to the exports in the next three months in 2019.
