UP Firms Up Against COVID Protocol Violators, Heavy Fine On People Not Wearing Masks

Lucknow, April 16 (IANS) With no let up in the number of fresh cases of Coronavirus, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday firmed up its strategy and announced a crackdown on violators of the COVID protocol. It was announced that people found without masks will be fined Rs 1,000 on the first time and if found again without mask, the penalty would be ten times.

The express instructions came directly from chief minister Yogi Adityanath, who is himself in isolation after testing COVID positive. The government also announced that all business establishments and public places will be closed on Sunday till further orders. Essential services will however be exempted from the new orders.
