Twenty Electric Buses Hit The Road In Kanpur, 32 More By Month End

Kanpur, December 11 (TNA) In a bid to ensuring clean, green Kanpur along with providing cost effective, comfortable and safe public transportation facilities for all sections of society 20 electric buses were flagged off from the charging depot by industrial development minister Satish Mahana, mayor Pramila Pandey, Neelima Katiyar; Minister, Higher Education and others.

This project is a joint initiative of Kanpur Smart City Limited (KSCL) & Kanpur City Transport Corporation Limited (KSCTL). With Support of Government of India & Government of UP, the Kanpur city is getting 100 Electric buses. As of now 52 buses have arrived in Kanpur and the remaining 48 Buses will come in next one or two months.

To begin with 20 buses have been started on 2 routes from today. Next week another 20 buses will be opened for operations & by this month end all 52 will be in operation, divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar informed. These electric buses are manufactured by PMI agency which will run these buses for the City Transport department.

The electric bus charging depot is funded and constructed by KSCL and it will be managed by the City Transport corporation & PMI jointly. These e-buses have special facilities like air conditioning, CCTVs, GPS location tracking,

front and rear view cameras, panic button, comfortable cushion seats and the bus runs for 90 Kms in one charge.

All drivers, conductors are well trained and they will be in uniform with ID cards. Necessary COVID precautions are are being taken, an official said. Once the metro is opened for public, more electric buses will be be deployed on the Metro feeder route for public convenience.
