Three Killed In Shootout Inside Chitrakoot Prison In Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, May 14 (TNA) Three criminals were killed in a gun battle inside the Chitrakoot prison of Uttar Pradesh on Friday, police said. While two criminals were shot dead by a dreaded Gangster Anshu Dixit, who was recently shifted in the prison from Sultanpur, Dixit was gunned down by the police which reached the crime scene soon after the incident was reported.

One of the criminals who was shot dead is considered close to jailed mafia don Mukhtar Ansari. The slain criminals have been identified as Mukim Kala and Meraz. Prison officials said that after killing the criminal duo, Anshu had held hostage five criminals and was refusing to let them go after which the police was left with little options but to open fire in which he was killed.

Mera was an active member of the Munna Bajrangi gang and had surrendered in a Varanasi court in September 2020. Mukeem Kala was arrested in February 2015. Prison and police officials are since scanning the whole jail premises to see if more firearms were inside. A probe is likely to be ordered on how Anshu got hold of a weapon inside the jail.
