Swimming Arena In Kanpur Being Modernised, Redeveloped

Kanpur, January 25 (TNA) Top officials of the Kanpur administration on Tuesday visited the ongoing site of redevelopment and modernization of the covered swimming pool situated at Nana Roa Park, Kanpur.

This Swimming Pool was constructed in the year 1968 by then Nagar Maha Palika and was Inaugurated by then Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Chandra Banhu Gupta. This Swimming Arena was the first of a kind in Kanpur.

For past many years, this swimming pool got dilapidated over the years. The filtration plant got obsolete and was asking for high maintenance every year. On high public demand Kanpur Smart City Limited has taken the initiative for the Redevelopment and Modernization of Swimming Pool. The cost of the Project is Rs 13.71 Crores.

Modern and latest change rooms will be developed for both males and females. Divisional Commissioner Raj Shekhar has said that this project will be under Special Category Project (SCP).

Important Features of this project include covering of the swimming pool. As per norms of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) depth of the pool will be reduced, keeping in mind safety measures held by FINA. This Swimming Pool will be 50 Metres x 18 Metres and will be redeveloped as per norms of the Olympics.

State and National Level Tournaments can take place in this arena and cater to International Level Practices for Swimmer. Swimming Pool will be Tournaments Level Equipment’s like TouchPads, Jumps Boards and Divider Lines. The arena will have rooftop turbo ventilators to control the humidity. Swimming Pool enthusiasts practice late evening as the arena has sufficient lighting provision for the same.

A Splash Pool and Rain Forest Shower will be constructed for kids in this arena. It also has Provision for Open Café will be catering to Swimmers and Spectators. All areas will have CCTV Surveillance System, and the whole arena will be WiFi Equipped. It will also have pipe music all around the arena.

Architecture and Structure drawing will be vetted by HBTU, and Quality and Progress will be monitored monthly by the committee under the Chairmanship of Professor of HBTU Kanpur.

CEO of Smart City has been instructed to take the help of IIM Indore to form the Module for Operation and Maintenance and Return on Investment (ROI) and was instructed to prepare the BOQ and Estimate for installing Solar Panels on the roof truss so the arena can become energy efficient. EPC Company was instructed to install a digital scoreboard as well.
