Smuggled Liquor Worth Rs 60 Lakh Seized From A Truck In Aligarh, Was Headed For Siliguri

Aligarh, Sep 25 (TNA) Liquor worth Rs 60 lakhs being carried, hidden under cotton-straw sack was caught by the police on Sunday. The driver and his helper have been arrested and a case of smuggling has been registered against them, an official informed.

Due to the closure of Tappal Interchange due to the ongoing Formula one bike race in Noida, vehicles were being diverted through other alternative routes. In this regard, an excise team was deployed for active checking. At around 4 am in the morning, information was received from an informer that a truck was smuggling liquor from Haryana. BAsed on the tip-off, cops intercepted the truck and made the seizure.

The arrests were made by a joint team of Excise Department and Akrabad Police. Near Panaiti flyover, 835 boxes of English liquor were seized and its market price has been estimated to be more than Rs 60 lakh.

According to the driver-conductor, the truck was booked for Siliguri, West Bengal.
