LUCKNOW || Seventeen people died in the state capital of Uttar Pradesh in the last 24-hours due to Coronavirus, the health department announced on Sunday. This new number took the tally to 437 deaths in the city ever since the pandemic broke in March this year. The city also reported a whopping 999 new cases of infections in one day, taking the total number of infected persons to 32,499 of which 23520 have so far been discharged.
Kanpur city also saw a spike in the number of new cases with 433 persons getting infected in the past 24-hours. Nine persons also perished to the disease in the last one day, taking the total death toll in the city to 481, the highest in any district of Uttar Pradesh. Prayagraj continued to paint a bleak picture with 301 new cases and three deaths.
Gorakhpur, the karmbhoomi of UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has reported 364 new cases in the last one day and there have been two deaths.
Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of prime minister Narendra Modi witnessed 152 new cases and three deaths. Cases have once again peaked in Noida and Ghaziabad with the cities reporting 220 and 180 fresh cases respectively.
There is a sudden spurt in COVID cases in Aligarh, with 199 new cases, Meerut 140, Saharanpur 156, Sitapur 133, Etawah 76, Mainpuri 43, Rae Bareli 51, Firozabad 58. Uttar Pradesh reported a total of 6777 new cases while 77 people died of the infection.
