Scorching Heat Grips Lucknow as Temperatures Soar to 40°C Amid Dry Winds

1 min read

Lucknow, April 17 (TNA) Lucknow is reeling under intense heat today, with eastern winds blowing since morning and harsh sunlight pushing temperatures toward 40°C. The mercury’s rise has amplified the summer’s bite, while atmospheric humidity has hit its lowest levels, making outdoor movement a cautious affair for residents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts a maximum temperature of 40°C and a minimum of over 22°C for the city today. Yesterday (Thursday), the maximum reached 39.8°C-1.3°C above normal, and the minimum was 21°C, 0.6°C higher than average. Maximum humidity stood at 56%, with a minimum of just 8%.

Across Uttar Pradesh, dry weather and fierce westerly “loo” winds have intensified over the past week, driving maximum temperatures past 40°C in several districts. Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh noted no active weather systems are currently influencing the state. An anticyclone over Karnataka and Maharashtra is shifting toward central India, sustaining dry westerly winds for the next 2-3 days and likely causing a slight further uptick in temperatures.

Relief may come soon as a western disturbance activates, potentially shifting wind directions and bringing partial cloud cover. This could temper the heat slightly, though no rain is expected. People are advised to stay hydrated, avoid peak sun hours, and limit outdoor exposure.
