Run For Kukrail Campaign Held To Conserve And Save Kukrail Reserve Forest: Citizens Unite to Save Lucknow’s Green Lungs
Lucknow, May 24 (TNA) At 6:30 AM on Saturday, over 100 concerned citizens came together at Kukrail Reserve Forest to participate in a peaceful run/walk campaign to conserve and protect this vital green lung of Lucknow. The event, organized by Citizens for Lucknow and Kukrail Runners, aimed to raise awareness about the ecological threats to the forest and advocate against the establishment of Jungle Safari and Zoo in this fragile ecosystem.
Participants gathered at the Kukrail entry gate for a 2-kilometre run/walk up to the bisection to Kursi and back. Specially designed T-shirts were distributed to all participants to mark the event and show solidarity for the cause.
The campaign served as a platform for expressing peaceful opposition to the proposed Jungle Safari and Zoo project in Kukrail Reserve Forest—an area already suffering from forest cover loss due to encroachments, and dumping of medical & municipal waste. Kukrail Reserve Forest has also been subject to misuse by individuals who enter the area for the illegal consumption of alcohol without any check by forest rangers.
Niharika, Dharmveer, Alok, and Jyotsna addressed the gathering. They highlighted the growing visible effects of climate change in and around Lucknow and emphasised that preserving Kukrail is essential to protecting the city’s “green lungs.” They passionately voiced their concerns over the declining forest cover and the need to preserve the ecological balance and biodiversity of Kukrail for future generations.
The speakers also invoked the constitutional principle of intergenerational equity, which mandates that natural resources must be used responsibly by the current generation so that they are preserved and available for future generations to enjoy. The event concluded with a collective pledge to continue working toward protecting the ecological balance of the Kukrail Reserve forest.
