Renowned Urdu Poet Munnawar Rana Passes Away

Lucknow, January 15 (TNA) Eminent Urdu poet Munawwar Rana passed away at the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in the state capital late on Sunday. He was 71 and was suffering from throat cancer for many years. Sources said that he had been at the medical facility for the past few days and the end came due to a cardiac arrest.

He is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son. Munawwar Rana's poem 'Maa', which is considered one of his most famous poems, has a different place in the world of Urdu literature. He will be laid to rest in his native village in Rae Bareilly later today.
