2 min read

Lucknow, August 4 (TNA) The state capital is set for a wet start to the week as the India Meteorological Department forecasts rain and thunderstorms across Lucknow throughout the day. Overcast skies and high humidity levels — touching 92% — have made the morning unusually sticky, with temperatures hovering around 26°C.

Intermittent showers are expected to continue, with chances of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. Winds from the west at around 12 km/h may bring some respite from the humidity, but visibility could be affected during heavier spells of rain.

Authorities have advised commuters to exercise caution, especially near low-lying and waterlogged areas. The rainfall is part of a broader monsoon system currently active over central Uttar Pradesh.

More rainfall is expected over the next 48 hours, with the possibility of localised flooding in the vulnerable zones.

Lucknow has received approximately 235 mm of rainfall so far in the 2025 monsoon season, which is about 26% less than the normal average of around 317 mm for this period. Despite intermittent rain in recent days, the city is still experiencing a significant rainfall deficit compared to typical monsoon levels.

August is typically the wettest month in Lucknow during the monsoon season. The city receives an average rainfall between 210 mm to 250 mm across recent years, with around 11 to 13 rainy days on average per month. Long-term data from 1990 to 2020 shows these averages have remained relatively consistent, with August rainfall marking the peak monsoon influence.

Annual rainfall in Lucknow averages about 1018 mm, with August contributing a significant share. Recent short-term data from July to early August 2025 shows measurable precipitation with rainfall occurring, including a notable event on August 2, 2025, with almost 0.76 inches (around 19 mm) in a day.

August in Lucknow consistently sees heavy rains due to monsoons, with average monthly rainfall in the 210–250 mm range over recent decades. This month typically accounts for the majority of the annual precipitation, with some fluctuation year-to-year reflecting monsoon strength.
