Police Sub-inspector Shot Dead In Agra

Agra, March 24 (TNA) A sub-inspector of the Uttar Pradesh Police was shot dead in Agra on Wednesday evening when he had gone to a village after a brawl between two brothers over some dispute was reported to the cops.

The 35-year-old Prashant Kumar Yadav, a 2015 batch cop, was trying to pacify the fighting brothers when one of them waved a countrywide pistol and later opened fire on the unsuspecting sub-inspector.

The accused Vishwanath is on the run after committing the crime and the police is on his lookout, an official of Agra police told TNA. Senior police officials, including ADG Zone Rajeev Krishna, IG A Satish Ganesh and SSP Babloo Kumar rushed to the crime scene in village Naharra.

UP Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has condoled the demise of the sub-inspector and has announced a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh to the bereaved family. A road in his ancestral village will also be named after the cop.
