Opposition Tears Into UP Government After Three-Time Former MLA Beaten To Death

LUCKNOW || Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh tore into the state government on Sunday after a three-time former legislator was beaten to death in Lakhimpur Kheri district. Leading the charge was Aam Aadmi PArty's Sanjay Singh who rued how the incident had proved that the law and order situation in the state had completely collapsed and that the police was patronising criminals.

Opposition party leaders said the killing of Nirvendra Mishra was the third high-profile crime in the past fortnight in the district, earlier ones being the rape and killings of two minors, but the state chief minister had not acted against the police officials of the district.

Bahujan Samaj Party President Mayawati as well as Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee President Ajay Kumar Lallu and former Union Minister Jitin Prasad have described the MLA's death as murder.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati said that the incidents of murder of former UP Lakhimpur Kheri MLA Nirvendra Kumar Mishra alias Munna and after the rape of a girl student in the same district were extremely sad and worrying. The government should take such strict action against the culprits, which will prevent such painful incidents in the state.

Former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said that the state has been shaken by the brutal killing of three-time MLA Nirvendra Munna and the murderous attack on his son in Lakhimpur in broad daylight on Sunday.

The state government has meanwhile dispatched senior officials to the crime-hit Lakhimpur Kheri and two persons have been arrested. Police say no one will be spared and if found guilty even policemen will be taken to task.
