Lucknow, May 18 (TNA) At least nine people were killed and several others injured on Monday morning after a Magic passenger vehicle collided with a truck on the Lakhimpur–Bahraich National Highway (NH-730) in Eesangar police station area, officials said.

The accident occurred around 8:00 am on the stretch between Unch village and Bharehta. According to police and local health officials, the crash left nine people dead and more than two others injured. Initial reports identified seven men and two women among the deceased.

Local police said the collision between the goods truck and the Magic led to extensive damage and multiple casualties. On receiving information about the crash, a large contingent of police and rescue teams rushed to the scene and began relief operations immediately.

Injured victims were transported to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Khamaria. Doctors at the CHC declared eight of the injured dead on arrival, while the remaining wounded are receiving treatment. Additional critical cases have been referred to higher medical facilities, officials added.

Senior district officials reached the site to supervise rescue work and begin an inquiry into the cause of the collision.

Police have cordoned off the area and are recording statements of eyewitnesses; preliminary investigations will examine speed, vehicle condition and driver involvement. Local residents and authorities said the severity of the crash unnerved the community and disrupted traffic on the busy highway for several hours as clearing and relief operations continued.

Further details, including identities of the victims and the exact sequence of events, are awaited as investigators piece together the circumstances behind the deadly collision. Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution and follow diversions while the site is cleared.
