NHRC Seeks ATR From UP DGP In Four Weeks On Alleged Third-Degree Of A Driver

Lucknow, March 9 (TNA) The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognisance of a complaint by Activist Dr Nutan Thakur about alleged third degree torture of driver Om ji Rastogi by Hasanganj Police, Lucknow.

Nutan had complained about Omji Rastogi not being given his salary by his employer Dr Ankur Singh, about being brutally beaten by Hasanganj police personnel in the night of 22 August 2018 and being falsely implicated in the Arms Act case and about being beaten again on 10 February 2021 by stick and leash.

The Commission said in its order that the complaint is regarding allegation of third degree torture to a victim for taking up his issue non payment of salary by his employer, with the help of Government Machinery.

It has called for an action taken report within 04 weeks from DGP, UP and has directed the DGP to intimate the Commission, if any notice, order etc. has been received by him from the State Human Rights Commission.

The National Commission has also asked the State Commission to inform the date of cognisance, if any, taken at their end in the instant matter within a month.
