NCPCR Writes To I&B Ministry, Flags Ullu App For Distributing Obscenity To School-Going Children

New Delhi, March 4 (TNA) The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry requesting it to provide information regarding rules and policy certification governing such apps. The NCPCR has recommended the government investigate and take appropriate action against the Ullu App, alleging that the app is distributing obscene and objectionable content to its users.

The body has said: 'Ullu app is harming the children studying in schools. It has been said that there is obscene content present on the Ullu app which can mislead school children. According to the letter, Ullu App does not follow any KYC policy or age verification rule of Google Play Store and iOS. Besides, he has also been accused of violating POCSO law.

Complaints received from Bollywood celebrities

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights has also received a complaint from well-known Bollywood celebrities. It alleges that the Ullu app, which is available on iOS and Play Store mobile platforms, secretly makes obscene content available to its customers, including children. This app is easily available on both Apple and Google. Also, no KYC is required to download or view objectionable content.

Violation of the POCSO Act

The complainant has also attached a screenshot of a show, which shows an intimate relationship between school children. Due to the lack of age verification system, objectionable content is available to people of all ages. For this reason, it has been considered a direct violation of Section 11 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, 2012. Demand for a report in 10 days

Keeping in mind the seriousness of the situation under Section 13(1)(i) of the CPCR Act, 2005, appropriate action has been ordered against Ullu App, Google Play Store and iOS. The letter also said that the commission should submit a detailed report on the matter within 10 days of its issue.
