Mathura Court Dismisses UP Police Application For Further Probe Against Journalist Siddique Kappan

Mathura, August 17 (TNA) A local court in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh has rejected Uttar Pradesh Police application seeking nod to conduct further probe against Kerala-based journalist Siddique Kappan.

Thes crime is in jail for a long time now after beingbooked for various offences under the stringent UAPA (Unlawful Activities Prevention Act). ASJ Anil Kumar Pandey on Tuesday dismissed the demand of the UP police/STF to conduct further investigation of the case against Kappan.

The accused - Atiqur Rahman, Masood Ahmed and Alam and Siddique Kappan were arrested by the Maan police under these charges while they were on their Hathras to meet the family of a Dalit woman allegedly raped and murdered last year.

The British Government is scrambling to evacuate more than 2,500 UK citizens and hundreds more Afghans who worked alongside western troops after Kabul airport descended into chaos following the Taliban takeover.

Another 150 British nationals were due to land in the UK early on Tuesday morning with 350 more expected to fly shortly.

The evacuation effort comes as Boris Johnson attempts to co-ordinate an international response including a G7 summit later this week and promises a new refugee resettlement scheme prioritising women and girls.
