LUCKNOW || The city logged an ominous 999 new Coronavirus cases on Sunday to retain its position of being the 'COVID Capital' of Uttar Pradesh, the most populous state in the country. According to statistics released by the state's health department, with an all-time high of 999 cases in a single day, the state capital now has 7168 active cases of the dread virus.
Eight people have died due to Coronavirus in the past 24-hours, taking the death toll so far to 346. So far since the outbreak in March, Lucknow has recorded 26856 cases beating Kanpur city, which was for long on the number two spot in the state, Prayagraj has logged 320 cases in the past one day, taking its total to 9277. So far the holy city has seen 159 deaths, of which 8 have been in the past 24-hours.
Kanpur city slipped to the third place with 300 new cases and 11 deaths in the past one day. Numbers in Gorakhpur however came down drastically with just 128 cases in the last 24-hours. Ghaziabad however saw a sudden spike in the last one day with 180 new cases and Varanasi, prime minister Narendra Modi's Lok Sabha constituency reported 198 new cases of COVID.
After a brief lull, Noida has also seen a marginal increase with 107 new cases. Nod deaths have however been reported from here in the past one day. Aligarh saw 187 new cases, Moradabad 157, Bareilly 151, Meerut 137, Saharanpur a high of 191, Barabanki (143), Ayodhya 105, Azamgarh (110), Agra (67), Lakhimpur Kheri a high of 121 in the past 24-hours.
