Leopard Strays Into Bahraich Village, Drags Away 8-Year-Old Girl And Kills Her

Bahraich, May 1 (TNA) An eight-year-old girl, resident of Dharmapur village was dragged away by a leopard from her house. His body was recovered by his family members in a mutilated condition on Wednesday morning. On getting the information, senior officials left for the village.

Shyama (8), daughter of Chunnu, resident of Dharmapur village under Dharmapur range of Katarniaghat Wildlife Division, was present with other children in front of the house on Tuesday night.

The girl got separated from the children after some time. Meanwhile, a leopard came out of the forest and took away the girl. When the girl was not seen, the family members started searching but to no avail.

Worried family members informed the police soonafter. On Wednesday morning, everyone was searching for the girl when her mutilated body was found lying at a distance of 200 meters from the house.

The villagers informed the range office about the incident. Forest officer reached the spot with the team. He informed the DFO about the incident. DFO B Shiv Shankar said that the leopard had dragged the girl away in the evening. His body was recovered in pieces. The body has been sent for post-mortem. He said that Rs 10,000 has been given to the victim's family as immediate financial assistance.
