Large Consignment Of Smuggled Liquor On Way To Bihar Intercepted, Seized By Varanasi Police

Varanasi, September 4 (TNA) A large consignment of liquor going to neighbouring Bihar by hiding it between foodgrain sacks in a container was intercepted and seized by the Varanasi police on Sunday and two smugglers were arrested, police said.

The smuggling attempt to Bihar, where liquor is banned by the state government, was busted by the Lanka police. of Varanasi foiled one such attempt. 192 boxes of liquor worth more than Rs 12 lakh, which were being taken from Panipat to Darbhanga in Bihar, hidden in sacks in a container, were recovered near Dafi Toll Plaza. Three fake number plates were also recovered from the container.

Sandeep Kumar, resident of Kharkada of Meham police station of Rohtak district of Haryana and Sonu, resident of Moi Hooda of Gohana Sadar police station of Sonipat district, have been arrested along with the recovered liquor. DCP Kashi Zone gave a cash reward of Rs 10,000 to the police team that recovered liquor and arrested the accused.
