Kaushal Mela Held In Aligarh To Exhibit Products Made By Learners

Aligarh, March 6 (TNA) The Centre for Skill Development and Career Planning, Women’s College, Aligarh Muslim University on Wednesday organized the second edition of the “Kaushal Mela 2.0”, the exhibition-cum-sale of products of the learners of the centre exhibiting their skills. The exhibited items included handmade garments, bags, decorative items, sculptures, paintings, beads and fashion jewellery.

Prof. Naima Khatoon, Principal, of Women’s College and Director of the Centre, and Prof. Mirza Asmer Beg, Dean, of Faculty of Social Sciences and former Director of the Centre, jointly inaugurated the event. In his address, Prof. Beg stressed the significance of skill development in women and urged the university that unique, eco-friendly and sustainable products, including handmade flowers, bags, batches, folders, etc., should be used as an option for decoration and gifts in seminars and conferences organized by various departments of the University.

Prof. Naima Khatoon upheld that the exhibition provides the necessary platform for female learners to showcase their skills. She urged the university’s regular students to join the centre as they can do add-on certificate courses and enhance their career prospects.

She pointed out that the certificate courses in Commercial Arts, Handicraft, Garment Making, Fashion Illustration and Sketching, Interior Decoration, Textile Designing, Needle Work (Embroidery) provide complementary programmes to make the Government of India schemes successful, under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY), an initiative of “Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship”, used for building awareness and employability skills.

Prof. Shaukat Haseen, Provost, I.G. Hall said that participation in such events increases the employability of the students who have completed adequate training. Dr Samreen Hasan Khan, the student counsellor at the centre, highlighted the details of various vocational courses offered by the centre.
