Kanpur Divisional Commissioner Checks Ground Reality Of City Buses, Several Suspended

Kanpur, Sep 2 (TNA) Realising that an efficient public transport system was an important component of a city as it provided economical transportation, reduces pollution levels and also eases traffic congestion, Kanpur divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar on Thursday took a bus ride to check out the ground reality of the status of services of the city bus.

Taking the buses on a few city bus routes as a commoner, the bureaucrat also constituted a team of 6 senior officers to check the buses randomly. They checked 12 buses today & have given report to him.

The Commissioner conducted a surprise checking of two city buses today morning by travelling on these buses - UP 78 BY 5708 from Harsh Nagar to Chunni Ganj and UP 78 BT 5698 from Rawatpur to Harsh Nagar.

Commissioner took the bus tickets by paying the required amount to travel to the destination. He found that in both buses, neither the drivers nor conductors were wearing the prescribed uniform nor were they wearing masks.

No first aid box was available, the LED display board were not functional, the general maintenance of the buses was in poor condition. In one case it was found that the Conductor took money for the ticket but didn’t issue the ticket to the passenger.

It was also observed that half of the passengers were not found wearing masks and the bus staff did not even care about it. Following this reality check, the commissioner issued orders for suspension of all 13 Conductors (who were found without prescribed uniform and were without mask) with immediate effect.

He also ordered removal of all 14 Drivers (private service provider drivers) from service with immediate effect. A departmental enquiry against all Members of “Enforcement / Bus checking Team” has been set up for negligence and poor enforcement.

A show cause notice has been issued to the private agency (who maintains the buses & provide drivers ) to black list it for poor maintenance, poor supervision, control on drivers
